Global Angels

Molly Bedingfield founded Global Angels together with her children in 2004. Molly had the idea, and formed the Global Angels board in 2003 and in December that year applied for charity status in the UK, by February 2004 they had received full charity status and became official.

The way Global Angels work is noticeably different in comparison to most other charities, the most important being that for every £1 they receive every penny of it goes directly to grass-roots projects.

They can do this because of their 'Corporate Angels' system, this system covers all their admin costs. Corporations and business's sponsor Global Angels becoming a Corporate Angel, they then provide services to Global Angels for free or donate money. This leaves Global Angels able to use every penny donated by the public to help children where it's needed without having to waste money elsewhere. A few of their Corporate Angels are the Hard Rock Cafe, Heart FM, 4kids international, Audi, See Tickets, Carnegie Club and Sony BMG.

The other major difference Global Angels have is that when people donate money, they have the choice of where their money is spent. People can choose exactly which project they want to support and know exactly where their money is being spent and how, rather than just donating directly to the charity.

Global Angels also have many ambassadors, these ambassadors are well known people from all walks of life who publicly support and help Global Angels. Lemar, Natasha Bedingfeild and Daniel Bedingfeild-two of Molly's children, Sean Kingston, Emmanuel Jal, Nigel Hall, David and Carrie Grant, Anneka Svenska and Chesney Hawks are just a few of Global Angels ambassadors.

In June 2005 Global Angels had their official launch party in London where several celebrities preformed.

In November 2005 Global Angels launched their 'feed a child for a year campaign'. This was a concert preformed at the Hard Rock Cafe in London, and with everything paid for by some of their Corporate Angels. This meant that every penny they raised was used to feed and educate over 1,000 children in Africa for a year.

Two years later in 2007 they launched in America, started a new campaign and were given the status of a NGO, non-governmental organization. The launch consisted of a 'Step Up America' concert as well as the Hard Rock feed a child campaign. The Hard Rock Cafe, being one of their Corporate Angels, ran events in Times Square, New York, Park Lane, London and Mumbai, India, as well running the campaign throughout all of their Hard Rock Cafe's, casinos, and hotels around the world. The money raised from the concerts and the campaign helped feed and educate 3,500 children across three continents.

Global Angels work by sponsoring and supporting small projects across the world, mainly in Africa, Asia and Latin America. For example, in Sudan they work with a program that is building new schools, feeding children through a school feeding program, providing water, sanitation, basic medical assistance as well as training new teachers.

In Thailand, they are helping to build a village where rescued street children can live in an adopted community, the children will live together as a family with a house 'mother'.

In Mumbai India, they work with a team who rescue children from brothels, give them a new life away from the sex slave industry, and give them an education, many of them even go on to university.

Global Angels goal is to feed and educate 1,000,000 children across Africa, Asia and Latin America. Their mission is hard to define as they work with many different projects doing different things. Their main aim is to champion the causes of children living in extreme poverty, disadvantage, devastated environmental conditions, with disability or life threatening illnesses, street kids, orphans, child slaves, trafficked kids, and child soldiers, providing sustainable solutions.

In 2008 the British Global Angels had an income of £659,657 of this money £581,600 was from voluntary donations. Their expenditure was £595,896 and of this £571,100 was spent on charitable activities.

Global Angels have many ways to raise money, from concerts and events, such as skydiving, which they put on throughout the year. Donations to Global Angels, and more specifically to each of the individual projects. They also encourage people to put on their own event or create their own adventures with the sponsorship money going to the Global Angels project of their choice.

Global Angels also have an online shop where people can buy things from Global Angels t-shirts, to a goat that will be donated to a family in need.
